1.Rosehip (Rosa canina) seed oil is rich in both polyphenols and anthocyanins, which may help reduce inflammation. (source) It also contains vitamin E, an antioxidant known for an anti-inflammatory effect that may help ease muscle and join pain. (source)
2.Plantain (Plantago major), in particular, plantain leaves, contain several anti-inflammatory compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, glycosides, and tannins, antioxidant, analgesic, immune-modulatory, anti-ulceration, and weak antibiotic activities, which may decrease several markers of inflammation.(source)
3.Comfrey (Symphytum officinale), was once commonly called "Knitbone" because of its amazing ability to heal broken bones and “knit” them back together again. The botanical name, 'Symphytum', means “to unite.” It been used as a traditional medicinal plant for the treatment of painful muscle and joints complaints for centuries. (source) It's analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, along with it's ability to stimulate granulation and tissue regeneration, are thanks to a cell proliferant compound called 'allantoin', which is found in the leaves and roots. (source) Rosmarinic acid and glycopeptides found in the roots have also been shown to possess anti-inflammatory activity, making comfrey an essential ingredient in this face nectar. (source)
4. Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea). Derived from the Greek word for hedgehog 'echinos' because it's prickly scales and cone shaped seed head resemble a hedgehog, echinacea's anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties have been appreciated since ancient times. (source)
Thanks to a multitude of acids (Chicoric, caffeic, chlorogenic and caftaric) and it's high anti-oxidant content and polyphenolic compounds, echinacea has been show to exhibit properties that may support joint health in the face of free radical-induced stressors. (source)
5. Calendula(Calendula officinalis) Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of calendula may be related to the content of flavonoids and tri-terpene derivatives found in it's flowers. (source) Extracts of this beautiful orange-yellow flower are often indicated as a classic, gentle muscle relief, for those frequently performing strenuous exercise.
Rice bran seed oil: Prized by Japanese women for centuries for it's hydrating and brightening benefits, rice bran oil (RBO) is also a skin softening superstar. RBO contains some phytochemicals (plant chemicals) such as tocotrienols, tocopherols, phytosterols, polyphenols, squalene and powerful anti-oxidant gamma oryzanol, that support skin's health. The high level of Vitamins E and B, omega 9 and a rich array of fatty acids, beta-carotene, CoQ10 and lycopene, help shield the skin from environmental stressors.
Evening Primrose oil (Oenothera biennalis): Native Americans have used evening primrose for healing purposes for millenia. It's leaves were used for minor wounds and sore throats, while the entire plant was used to help support the healing of bruises. It can help reduce redness and irritation, relieve topical inflammation and encourage the skin's natural healing processes. Its healing benefits may be due to its high gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) content. GLA is an omega-6 fatty acid with potent anti-inflammatory properties.
Moringa seed oil (Moringa olifeira): (Moringa Olifeira) seed oil from the seeds of the Moringa tree, is associated with healing properties demonstrated in its use as treatment of acute and chronic skin diseases. (source) It can help encourage and support cell turnover and has exhibited effectiveness as a treatment for skin diseases that rely on keratinocyte hyperproliferation in cases of acute inflammation. (source)
Squalane: A super-lightweight, non-greasy, quick absorbing, saturated oil, formed when squalene* undergoes a hydrogenation process, which turns it into a stable, fully saturated oil with a long shelf life called squalane. The squalane used herein, is derived and created from sugar cane squalene.(source)
Squalane is excellent for skin, as it may help prevent irritation. Clinically proven to be non-comodogenic oil, it is particularly excellent for people with sensitive skin conditions, including rosacea, eczema and acne, as it may also exhibit properties that regulate excess oil production.
A naturally antibacterial oil, squalane helps fight bacteria on the skin and helps protect skin from oxidative damage caused by free radicals that can accelerate age spots and premature aging. (source1, source 2). It is known for it's anti-oxidant, detoxifying, hydrating and emollient properties (source), and may be used on acne and eczema prone skin, as well as sensitive skin.
*squalene is found in olives, sugarcane, wheat germ, rice bran, palm trees and shark liver. The squalane used in KAVANA products, is entirely derived from sugar cane.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum): This delicate little yellow flower is rich in flavonoids which are famous for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, which may make it good at helping heal and repair the skin. (source)
Rosa damascena essential oil: Legend has it that Cleopatra soaked her ships sails in rose water before sailing, so that the scent of this royal flower would follow her everywhere she went and filled her royal chamber with rose petals before Marc Anthony visited her, ensuring he would associate the scent of the flower with her, every time he smelled one!
Aside from it's lovely scent, rose essential oil has potent medicinal properties, valuable for both internal and external applications. Topical applications in skincare, have shown excellent wound healing capabilities, thanks to it's extremely powerful anti-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties. (source) Proven effective against bacteria that can resist even the strongest of pharmaceutical antibiotics, including Propionibacterium acnes (the bacteria that causes acne). (source) Just a few drops of this concentrated essential oil, can provide powerful protection against topical bacteria and infection, redness and inflammation.(source)
Rosa damascena oil is also loaded with antioxidants and flavonoids, which are essential in fighting free-radicals and UV related damage. (source) Vitamin C rich, Rosa damascena may also help with the production of collagen and elastin in skin, aiding the maintenance of firm skin. (source)
Long prized for it's scent, Rosa Damascena essential oil, derived from the hydro-distillation of rose petals, has been proven to provide relief to the parasympathetic nervous system, from symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression upon inhalation.(source) Especially beneficial to the parasympathetic nervous systems, it has been shown to be beneficial to post-partum mother's, inducing psychological and physiological feelings of relaxation. (source)
Since fragrance compounds are able to cross the blood-brain barrier and interact with receptors in the central nervous system, the immediate benefit of this ancient form of aromatherapy may be tangible, when smelling Kavana's Restorative Rose Nectar.
